The first MU2 Limited Edition™ project has been completed through the Five Phase process. A MU2B-26A, SN351SA has been renovated throughout. The new SAGEM avionics system is pending certification.
Phase One of the project included the complete disassembly of the aircraft. The wings, landing gear, horizontal stabilizer and interior were all removed. The props were overhauled and the engines were routed to Standard Aero for Dash 10 modification and overhaul. Other system components were overhauled as required.
Phase Two included the complete inspection of the aircraft systems and structure. All discrepancies requiring repairs were addressed. Areas requiring new corrosion resistant treatment were cleaned, primed and, or painted as required.
Phase Three included the installation of new parts and the reinstallation of the overhauled components. This aircraft project includes the incorporation of seventeen (17) Service Bulletins and numerous new parts. This Phase also included the installation of a new light weight acoustic / insulation package manufactured by Aerocon.
Phase Four included system ground testing of all aircraft systems. On the first Test Flight the aircraft performed extremely well. Captain Rick Wheldon and Co-Pilot Tim Coons operated the aircraft up to flight level 200 at True Air Speeds up to 315 knots. The airplane has completed 63 hours of flight testing on all the aircraft systems, including the new SAGEM Integrated Cockpit Display System.
Phase Five has included the stripping of the old exterior paint, metal prep, etch, aIodine and application of a corrosive resistant primer. The newly designed Limited Edition™ paint scheme was applied by Ranger Aviation over the new Aerocon insulation and acoustic package, with the new light weight Lou Martin interior panels covered with new fabrics and leather along with the newly designed cabin table. The interior also includes two new light weight pyramid cabinets covered with veneer and a high gloss finish.
This aircraft is equipped with the Sagem Integrated Cockpit Display System which includes Dual 8.4 inch flat – panel Primary Flight Displays and a 10.4 inch flat – panel Multi-Function Display displaying engine indications, weather and traffic. This system is a new STC for the MU-2 and is being certified on this aircraft
When the first MU 2 Limited Edition™ is completed later this year, it will be the fastest, most efficient twin turbo-prop in its price class.
